The Care Bears and Care Bear Cousins got their animation start with two television specials before getting their own regularly airing cartoon series.

Care Bears: The Movie

The Care Bears Movie was released on March 23, 1985 and grossed almost $24 million. The movie ran for approximately 1 hour and 16 minutes. Today the movie is once again available on VHS and now DVD. In this movie the Care Bear Cousins were introduced to the family.

The biggest star in this film was Mickey Rooney who was the voice of Mr. Cherrywood, the narrator. John Sebastian wrote the songs for this movie and Adventures in Wonderland.

The world is in trouble...and it's up to the Care Bears to save it! Starrying everyone's favorite animated characters and featuring the voices of Mickey Rooney and Georgia Engel, as well as songs performed by Carole King, The Care Bears Movie will dazzle and delight viewers of all ages. Way up high where the clouds and rainbows live, the Care Bears watch over the Earth and make sure everyone is kind and friendly to one another. So When they see an evil spirit trick a lonely boy into helping make people mean, the huggable heroes jump into action! They come to the rescue with the animals from the Forest of Feelings...but it's going to take an awful lot of love to defeat the spirit's powerful spell.

A New Generation

The Care Bears:A New Generation was released on released on January 1, 1986 and grossed $8 million in theaters. This movie was a prequeal to the first movie that was released and told how the Care Bears and Care Bear Cousins came to be. The movie does not explain about Grams, Hugs, or Tugs though. (A comic book that was produced later gives some information on theses characters.)
This movie was produced by Nelvana and Columbia Pictures.

Adventures in Wonderland

The Care Bears' Adventure In Wonderland, is based on the fairy tale "Alice in Wonderland". It is an up-dated version of the classic Victorian style tale. The movie was released in the United States and Canada on August 7, 1987 and was produced by Nelvana and Cineplex Odeon Films. The movie was written by Susan Snooks and John DeKlein. The songs in the movie were written by John Sebastian and performed by him and Natalie Cole performed "Rise and Shine"
